Institutional investors are consuming data as fast as organizations can produce it. The demand for alternative data — information such as credit and debit card transactions, web traffic, social and sentiment data, and more — is expected to have a compound annual growth rate of 53% over the next several years.1

The challenge for investors is not access to data. It’s how to use it to make better decisions. That’s where Truist Securities Equity Sales, Trading & Research teams provide value to clients, with in-depth analysis that helps turn data into actionable recommendations.

“Data on its own is really an incomplete picture,” explains Mary Stroth, head of Truist Securities Equity Sales, Trading & Research. “We incorporate it into our fundamental analysis to provide what we think our clients want and need.”

Analysts with real-world knowledge

Stroth’s team is built with an emphasis on the sectors and industries most important to institutional investors, with research analysts in technology, healthcare, consumer, industrials, financials, and more. One key differentiator, she says, is that many of the research analysts at Truist Securities come from unique backgrounds. Prior to becoming analysts, some worked at companies in the industries they now cover, giving them first-hand knowledge and unique insights into how different factors can impact their companies.

“That experience gives them immediate credibility with investors,” Stroth notes. Truist Securities analysts cover some of the largest companies in their sectors, and also many smaller underrepresented companies that can offer significant investment opportunities for our clients.

Stroth says Truist Securities is positioned to stay at the forefront of trends, and more importantly, the interpretation of those trends, because senior analysts work closely mentoring junior analysts to help develop and build their knowledge base and analytical skills.

“It's really important that our senior analysts—who have that expertise of combining their fundamental research analysis with alternative data—continue to pass that knowledge down to the next generation,” Stroth says. “So, as the data usage and dollars spent on acquiring it continue to explode, our next generation of research analysts can continue to provide those insights.”

The right information to the right investors

Just as data on its own isn’t enough to give clients the full picture, deep fundamental analysis still needs to be delivered to institutional investors who can make the most of it. That's why the research, sales, and trading teams work closely together to know their clients well and get their research insights and recommendations into the hands of the right clients. Then the clients can use these insights to make smarter investment choices.

“What we’re really seeking to do is drive interactions, connections, and the overall client relationships,” Stroth says. “Our teams across equity sales, trading, and research want to provide for our clients what they need—and that differentiated content and information will help those clients outperform.”
